Striking vs Grappling

Well it has begun, now everyone wants to start punching and kicking...
Six months of training in the art of striking will not do it against someone who has been doing it his/her whole life.. Its easier for a striker to learn grappling, but for a grappler to learn striking its a hard transition... Most grapplers when they learn how to strike they look robotic they drop their hands on the return they don't know how to strike on angles their footwork is always wrong .... They forget that they are gr… Continue

The Deep End

Martial arts teachers are a fickle bunch to be sure, most believe that a slow steady progression from a dogmatic position is the only way for an adult beginner to understand the nuances of an art. They take their raw recruits and place them at such a low level on the learning curve that it truly hinders growth and confidence. I have found it detrimental to adult students to place them on the same ladder as a child student. Adults and children are different in their mannerisms, experience’s and d… Continue

The Thugification of the Martial Arts

I have decided to start this blog in order to help advance a sort of unity and sense of harmony between martial arts practitioners everywhere. I myself have been involved in the arts for over 30 years and have seen many so-called martial artists get away from the true teachings and philosophies’ of the martial arts with bad sportsmanship and a total disrespect and lack of self control. Master Joe Corley has referred to it as “The Thugification of the Martial Arts” at the 42nd annual Battl… Continue

My Definition of TaeKwonDo

It is simple to say The Way of Kicking and Punching but there is so much more to this style of martial art. Since we have so many variations of TaeKwonDo it is not fare to judge or to say, this is the real style of TKD. Im a historian when it comes to martial arts, it fascinates me. I always refer to TKD as Karate only because the founders of the original kwans studied karate in Japan during WWII. I have trained in Shotokan and saw first hand the similarities between the two styles. Being that t… Continue

EACH ONE MUST TEACH ONE

Mission Statement:
The San Wazi System of Survival’s mission is to draw out and reveal the martial capacity of all its participants. We believe self-defense is instinctual and part of everyone’s archetypical being; We all have a burgeoning warrior within. It is this facet of our humanity we wish to engage.

About San Wazi:
San Wazi is a free-flowing, eclectic martial form. It has its roots in boxing, wrestling, Goju Karate, and especially Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu, founded by Dr. Moses Powell. The techniques taught in class are made to develop student’s physical ability and martial creativity, fomenting in the individual instinctive responsiveness to contentious real-life situations.

SANUCES'S ORIGINAL CREED

SAN-WAZI SELF TALK
I AM CONFIDENCE
I AM COURAGE
I AM CONTROL
I AM DISCIPLINE
I AM POWER
I AM SPEED
I AM STRENGTH
I AM TECHNIQUE
I AM FEROCITY
I AM INVINCIBLE

SANUCES RYU CREED

A man or woman of the martial arts thinks at all times.

They possess speed, form, power, technique and gracefulness.

They move like the roar of thunder and strike like the speed of lightning.

That is a man and woman of the martial arts. Sir.

--Dr. Moses Powell

Sanuces Ryu teaches the skills of blocking, striking, throwing, and subduing in the practical (street) application. It also teaches the "Art": the movement of an intelligent mind, controlling a disciplined body in a display of speed, form, technique power and gracefulness.

Sanuces Ryu is Jiu Jitsu! Jiu Jitsu is the science of striking grabbing or pulling areas of an attacker's body causing severe and intense pain and possibly, debilitating injuries.

This is not a sport-this is self-defense" Dr Moses Powell
